HOPE UK - KNIFE ANGEL SCULPTURE
A sculpture made up of over 100,000 seized blades called the Knife Angel is coming to Newark, from 21st April to 20th May, as part of the UK National Youth Anti-Violence Tour. The sculpture was created by the British Ironwork Centre and took over two years to create. The knives were removed from the streets by police forces across the country, and many of the blades are engraved with the names of lost loved ones from families affected by knife crime.
Whilst the sculpture is in the town there is a programme of educational awareness programmes in schools, and community events to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime. Much of knife crime originates from gang culture and organised crime groups who are actively engaged in drug trafficking and dealing.
I would like to encourage you to try to get across to Newark whilst the Knife Angel is there to see this amazing and meaningful sculpture. Even if you cannot get to Newark, please could you pray that young people will be sufficiently impacted by seeing the sculpture that they don’t get involved with gangs, drugs, or knife crime in the future.
